As we all know this past NBA season had a disastrous ending for Kobe Bryant and his Los Angeles Lakers. Swept in four games by the Dallas Mavericks was a not the storybook ending the defending champions had hoped for. The Lakers not only lost, and lost badly, they were a team in disarray. The shoes that Kobe wore that series and in the final game turned out to be the last Kobe VI he would ever wear. It may be the last pair of Kobe Bryant shoes he will wear for a long time. At least the shoe went out in style. The POP (Playoff Pack) pair of Kobe VI’s that Kobe wore were originally meant to have a counterpart colorway.
Due to the early exit of Kobe and Lakers, this single POP colorway will have to do. Good thing it is a beauty. The upper features the standard snakeskin textured upper that a standard Kobe VI uses and uses two shades of yellow. The base of the upper is what Nike calls “Lightbulb Yellow”. Del Sol is used on the scale section of the upper. The midsole, heel cup, tongue, and laces are all done in black. The outsole uses both white and yellow.
With the NBA lockout looming and no agreement between the owners and player’s association in sight, it looks like there will be no professional basketball played this season. What!? It is bad enough that there will be no NBA games played. But you mean to tell me that we, as sneakerheads, will not be able to spot any new models and colorways of signature sneaker lines on the court? This is outrageous! Wait, why am I getting so fired up? There will be no lack of Nike shoes for basketball. The sneaker game is not going to shut down. It will not be locked out. Thank God!
Images of the first stages of the Kobe VII have already been spotted. We sneakerheads may have been denied additional colorways of the Kobe VI thanks to the Dallas Mavericks. But we can take solace in the fact that the next edition to the Kobe signature sneaker line is on it’s way and promises a multitude of colorways. One can only imagine what sick colorways the Kobe VII will be released in. And, I like many other sneakerheads, am one that can imagine.

They are at it again. Actually they never stopped. And if recent history is any indication, it doesn’t look like they are going to stop any time soon. The “they” I refer to is of course the athletic shoe giant Nike. As a collective group the shoe designers at the company refuse to let a day go by without announcing the release of a new basketball shoe. Good for them! I am certainly not complaining, I am just trying to keep up with all the delicious shoes that they are dropping in the sneaker world. And I have no problem with doing so.
The newest sneaker masterpiece to come out of the Nike camp is another colorway of the Nike Hyperdunk Supreme 2011. So far this year with have seen Sport Red, Digi-Camo Gorge Green, Black, and Tonal Green colorways. The newest and most certainly not the last shoe, will use Team Orange. This color is featured on the shoe’s upper, tongue, laces, inner lining, heel cage, and a portion of the midsole. Grey is used on the Swoosh and midsole. If you are a fan of the color orange, this is a must have shoe.
This is a Nike Hyperdunk Supreme so that means that a webbed TPU overlay will be used. As part of their “Premium Innovation”, this toe overlay enhances support and comfort in an already technologically advanced basketball shoe. Flywire is featured on the uppper while a Zoom Air unit occupies the midsole. A solid herringbone rubber outsole completes one of the best basketball shoes that Nike’s has to offer. Originally rocked by Kobe Bryant, the Hyperdunk has continued to improve in design and performance since it’s inception in 2008.
With the addition of the new webbed TPU overlay, the Hyperdunk has continued to improve it’s performance standards. A new, more breathable Flywire upper is used as a platform for the toe overlay. The webbed overlay locks the foot down and conforms to the foot to minimize any unnecessary movement inside the shoe. As a result, this just might be the most responsive and cushioned shoe that Nike has released this year.
Other than the Digi-Camo colorway of the Hyperdunk Supreme 2011, this is easily the best colorway to drop so far. But then again, I am a sucker for Orange. More importantly, I am a sucker for most of the colorways of Nike shoes for basektball. I can’t wait for tomorrow.…
