Below are a few tips on healthy food shopping. Make a shopping list before leaving home. Have a meal or snack so you will not be hungry while shopping. This way you will not be tempted to by junk foods.

Whenever possible buy organic in order to reduce exposure to pesticides. Search for an organic farmer in your area. Many times you can get a variety of products from your local farmers.

Purchase free range beef and chicken. If this is not possible, purchase meats that are free of added hormones and antibiotics. Avoid buying mercury exposed or genetically altered fish and seafood.

Buy cold pressed cooking oils. Learn the difference between the various oils on the market. Olive oil is always a good choice. If it is possible don’t fry with oil. Many people are now learning to stir fry their vegetables with water and then add cold pressed oils after cooking.

Select dark leafy green vegetables with healthy sturdy leaves. Purchase your other vegetables in various colors for a wider range of nutrients.

Buy and try oatmeal or muelsi for breakfast. These rich whole grains are full of anti oxidants.

Purchase a variety of nuts, nutbutters and seeds for healthy snacks or for added protein.

Buy a variety of fruits. Fruits will delight your taste buds as well as offer you many healing vitamins.

Buy wonderful brown colored fiber rich foods like brown rice, crackers, whole grain breads, pastas and legumes.

Buy good bottled water for convenience. Purchase water in glass bottles in order to prevent exposure to plastics.
